π¨ MARKETS CLOSED MONDAY: Labor Day Trading Halt Sets Up High-Stakes Tuesday Open as Yen Surge, Hormuz Talks & Fed Data Collide β DCG Command Center Weekend Gameplan
πΊπΈ Labor Day 2026 Market Recap & Tuesday Sept. 8 Trading Setup | Money Rotation, Crypto Sentiment & Sector Leadership Heading Into a Volatile September
Blu Dot surpasses 2,000% ROAS with self-serve CTV ads
Home furniture brand Blu Dot blew up on CTV with help from Roku Ads Manager. Hereβs how:
After a test campaign reached 211,000 households and achieved 1,010% ROAS, the brand went all in to promote its annual sales event. It removed age and income constraints to expand reach and shifted budget to custom audiences and retargeting, where intent was strongest.
The results speak for themselves. As Blu Dot increased their investment by 10x, ROAS jumped to 2,308% and more page-view conversions surpassed 50,000.
βFor CTV campaigns, Roku has been a top performer,β said Claire Folkestad, Paid Media Strategist, Blu Dot. βComping to our other platforms, we have seen really strong ROASβ¦ and highly efficient CPMs, lower than any other CTV partner we've worked with.β
Using Roku Ads Manager, the campaign moved from a pilot to a permanent performance engine for the brand.
β‘ KEY THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE
π US markets are CLOSED Monday, September 7, 2026. It's Labor Day β NYSE, Nasdaq, and the bond market are shut. There is no regular session, no pre-market, no after-hours. Regular trading resumes Tuesday, September 8 at 9:30 AM ET. Anything framed as "today's move" below is Friday, Sept 4 cash-session data plus the overnight/weekend newsflow that will be sitting on the tape when the bell rings Tuesday.
π―π΅ Yen ripped to its strongest level since February overnight on growing BOJ rate-hike bets β a macro item that touches carry trades, gold, and risk sentiment broadly.
π’οΈ IranβOman Hormuz shipping talks reportedly hit "final stages," a genuine de-escalation headline for energy/shipping risk premium β worth watching against XOM/XLE Tuesday.
πͺπΊ Eurozone GDP revised UP (0.6% QoQ vs. 0.4% forecast) and Sentix investor confidence beat big (5.1 vs. 1.7 forecast) β a quietly bullish global-growth data point.
π₯ China's PBOC bought gold for a 22nd straight month, reserves now $350B β the slow-bleed dollar-diversification trade continues.
πͺ Bitcoin ~$79,400, Fear & Greed at 74 ("Greed") on CoinMarketCap, while SoSoValue's Fear & Greed reads a cooler 42 β sentiment is genuinely mixed depending on the source, which itself is a signal.
π FRIDAY, SEPT. 4 CLOSE β THE TAPE WE'RE STARTING FROM
(Prices verified via TradingTerminal screenshot, cross-referenced with Yahoo Finance / Investing.com. Since Monday is a holiday, this Friday close IS the "current" reference price going into Tuesday.)
Index | Close | After-Hours | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
S&P 500 (SPY) | $770.19 | $769.53 | -0.39% |
Nasdaq (QQQ) | $718.96 | $717.54 | +0.18% |
Dow (DIA) | $534.08 | $532.88 | -0.53% |
Russell 2000 (IWM) | β | β | -0.21% AH |
Vol & Fear Gauges: VIX 15.04 (+3.51%) β still historically low, but the pop matters into a holiday-thinned tape. TNX (10Y yield) 4.78% (+0.48%). SKEW 151.58, elevated enough to note tail-risk hedging is active.
Trailing 12-month leaders on Normalized Performance: IWM (Russell 2000) +25.1% is actually leading QQQ (+25.0%) and crushing SPY (+18.7%) / DIA (+16.9%) β small caps have been the stealth leadership story all year. That's a rotation theme, not a one-day blip.
ES Futures (overnight): Trading ~7,721 as of the early Monday session, essentially flat. Camarilla/structure levels on the DCG chart show L4 short-breakout support near 7,700, L5 downside target 7,661β7,670, and resistance stacked at H3 short zone ~7,750β7,760 into H4 long-breakout ~7,766β7,770. A clean break/hold above 7,750 opens trend continuation; a loss of 7,700 puts 7,661 in play fast.
π OVERNIGHT NEWS WRAP (Post-2AM CST) β What's Actually Moving the Needle
π’ Major, positive catalysts:
IranβOman "final stage" progress on a temporary Hormuz transit accord β de-escalatory for oil-shock risk after weeks of tension (Reminder: Oman had reportedly rebuffed Iran's fee pitch just days earlier, so this is a real shift, not a rehash).
Eurozone GDP revised higher (0.6% QoQ / 1.2% YoY) + Sentix confidence smashing expectations β global growth backdrop is firmer than consensus expected.
Huawei launched its Kirin 9050 Pro chip β first new high-end silicon in six years, notable for the China semiconductor self-sufficiency narrative (watch ASML/AMAT/China-tech ETFs like KWEB for spillover sentiment Tuesday).
π‘ Moderate/mixed:
Japanese yen strongest since May/February on BOJ hike odds β pressure on carry-trade unwind risk, modest headwind for US mega-cap tech that's benefited from yen-funded flows.
UK Finance Minister Healey talked up fastest-in-G7 H1 growth and a fiscal "discipline" roadmap ahead of the budget β GBP-sensitive, secondary US relevance.
Hong Kong close mixed: Hang Seng -0.93%, Baidu/Leapmotor -4.6%, but Qunhe Technology +31%, Cambridge Tech/Zhongji Xuchuang +20%+ β Asia tech is choppy under the surface, not a clean risk-on/off read.
π΄ Watch items / not-yet-resolved:
Israel Defense Minister Katz warned of "all-out war" if Palestinian security forces attack β geopolitical tail risk that keeps a bid under gold/oil hedges.
Iran's Foreign Ministry warned South Korea against Hormuz operations participation β offsetting the more constructive Oman headline; this space is fluid, don't treat it as resolved.
ποΈ White House / Trump Impact: No new White House statement or press release specific to September 7 surfaced in the overnight wire β expected, given it's a federal holiday and the WH itself is dark for Labor Day. The most relevant recent White House-adjacent story remains Exxon being excluded from Trump's oil-executive meeting and ongoing administration pressure on "Big Oil" profits β a background theme for energy sentiment, not a fresh Tuesday catalyst. Nothing here should be traded as a Monday-specific WH headline β treat this as a quiet news day on that front until Tuesday's briefing.
π MONEY ROTATION & SECTOR LEADERSHIP (as of Friday close)
Sector performance (XL-series, 1-day):
π’ Technology (XLK) +0.61%
π’ Industrials (XLI) +0.41%
π΄ Utilities (XLU) -0.04%
π΄ Basic Materials (XLB) -0.42%
π΄ Consumer Staples (XLP) -0.62%
π΄ Real Estate (XLRE) -0.66%
π΄ Financials (XLF) -0.73%
π΄ Energy (XLE) -0.96%
π΄ Communication Services (XLC) -1.19%
π΄ Consumer Discretionary (XLY) -1.25%
π΄ Health Care (XLV) -1.30%
Read: Money rotated defensively out of nearly everything except Tech and Industrials on Friday β that's a narrow, top-heavy tape, not broad risk-on. The heatmap shows the divergence inside "Technology" itself: NVDA +0.49% green while AAPL -2.49% and AVGO -0.02% lag β this isn't a sector-wide tech rally, it's stock-specific.
Heatmap standouts: GOOGL flat-to-green, AMZN -1.05%, Consumer Cyclical -8.26% on one component dragging the group hard β check what's driving that before assuming discretionary weakness is broad-based.
π― Hottest Sector Sentiment Right Now: Technology/AI infrastructure names holding up best relative to a risk-off tape elsewhere β but it's selective (NVDA-type names), not sector-wide. Small caps (IWM) remain the multi-month leadership story worth tracking into Tuesday.
πͺ BITCOIN & CRYPTO SENTIMENT BREAKDOWN
Asset | Price | 24h |
|---|---|---|
BTC | $79,421.86 (CMC) / $79,422.95 (SoSoValue) | -0.55% to -0.56% |
ETH | $2,491.72 | -0.12% to -0.25% |
BNB | $744.83 | -1.58% to -1.73% |
XRP | $1.40β$1.403 | -0.85% to -0.99% |
SOL | $104.65 | -0.82% |
Sentiment split: CoinMarketCap's Fear & Greed reads 74 (Greed); SoSoValue's own gauge reads a much cooler 42 β this divergence is itself the story. Treat "crypto is euphoric" narratives with caution this week.
Standouts: LINK +9.4% on trending list, TAO +14%, ICP +12.3% β rotation into select alts even as majors chop sideways. ETH ETF flows +$184.1M positive. Community chatter flags Sberbank (Russia's largest bank) reportedly moving deeper into crypto as loan collateral (BTC/ETH/USDT) β a longer-horizon institutional-adoption headline, not a Tuesday catalyst. Also circulating: a $320M "White Hats" pull from Liquid Network β unverified beyond the single social post; do not act on this without independent confirmation.
Bottom line: Majors are consolidating in a tight range post-summer runup; the more interesting action is in the mid-cap rotation (LINK, TAO, ICP, ZEC +133% weekly). This smells like late-cycle alt rotation β high-risk, size accordingly.
π ECONOMIC CALENDAR β WEEK AHEAD (Tuesday resumes trading)
6:00 AM ET β NFIB Business Optimism Index (Aug) β est. 99.7
8:55 AM ET β Redbook YoY (Sep 05)
9:00 AM ET β Used Car Prices MoM/YoY (Aug)
10:00 AM ET β CB Employment Trends Index (Aug)
11:00 AM ET β Consumer Inflation Expectations (Aug) β est. 3.6%
11:30 AM ET β 6-Month & 3-Month Bill Auctions
These land Tuesday, the actual first trading day of the week β that's your real catalyst window, not Monday.
π― WATCHLIST FOR TUESDAY'S OPEN (Educational β Not a Recommendation)
Since markets are closed Monday, treat every level below as a plan to verify live at Tuesday's open, not a standing order.
π’οΈ Energy β XOM (Friday close $159.47, -1.69%): Sitting well off its $176.41 all-time high, with Piper Sandler's $185 target and a Street range of $168β$200 implying analysts see more upside than the tape currently reflects. The Hormuz de-escalation headline is a genuine watch item β a confirmed Iran-Oman accord could support energy broadly; failure to confirm keeps XLE (-0.96% Friday) under pressure. Watch $160 as a reclaim level; below $157 keeps the downtrend intact.
π» Tech/AI β NVDA: One of Friday's few green large-caps (+0.49% on the heatmap, $229.55 on Trading Terminal). With small caps and select AI names the only real leadership, NVDA strength/weakness at Tuesday's open is a tell for whether the "narrow tech bid" theme extends or fades.
πͺ Crypto β BTC $79,400 zone: Rangebound. A move that reclaims $80K+ with volume matters more than any single headline; failure to hold $79K on Tuesday's crypto-market open (which trades through the holiday) is worth watching before equities even open.
Risk management reminder: Camarilla-style structure on /ES shows real pivot clusters at 7,700 (support) and 7,750β7,770 (resistance) β plan position sizing around those, not gut feel.
π§ MASTERMIND & COMMUNITY TAKEAWAYS
Chat and social flow overnight skewed toward macro-watching mode rather than aggressive positioning β a lot of eyes on the yen move, gold reserves data, and Hormuz talks, less on individual equity setups. That's consistent with a holiday-thinned, "wait for confirmation Tuesday" posture, which is the right instinct given the low-volume, low-conviction overnight tape.
β THE DCG BOTTOM LINE FOR TUESDAY, SEPT. 8
No new positions need to be forced on a market holiday. Let Tuesday's actual open β not Monday's overnight chatter β confirm direction.
Watch the yen and Hormuz headlines first thing β both have real cross-asset implications (rates, energy, risk appetite) before you even look at individual tickers.
Leadership is narrow. Small caps and select AI names have been carrying returns; broad-based rotation confirmation (or lack of it) at Tuesday's open is the single most important tell of the week.
Crypto sentiment is genuinely split across data providers β don't lean on one Fear & Greed reading alone.
