β‘ 5 THINGS TO KNOW RIGHT NOW β BEFORE THE BELL
π S&P 500 closed at a fresh record 7,757.64 (+0.62%) Friday after a shockingly weak July jobs report (-23,000 jobs vs. +80,000 expected) crushed September rate-hike odds and put cuts back on the table.

π MACRO BACKDROP β THE BIG PICTURE
Friday's session was a genuine regime-shift moment. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported the economy shed 23,000 jobs in July against expectations for an 80,000 gain, and wages softened alongside it. Markets read this as clearance for the Fed to hold β or eventually cut β rather than raise, and September rate-hike odds, which stood above 57% heading into the report, collapsed. The 10-year yield fell to 4.64% on the news. That combination β bad-is-good labor data plus a still-resilient earnings season β pushed the S&P 500 to its second straight record close at 7,757.64, capping a 3.6% weekly gain, the Nasdaq's best week since April on a 5.2% surge, and the Dow up nearly 3%.
The AI-infrastructure thesis got fresh institutional validation overnight: JPMorgan hiked its S&P 500 year-end target to 8,000 from 7,800, explicitly pointing to cloud growth and expanding AI backlogs as evidence that the spending is converting into real revenue β not just capex speculation. CFRA (8,050) and Tom Lee (8,000) are now similarly positioned. This is a broadening rally, not a narrow mega-cap sprint β roughly 336 S&P constituents advanced Friday versus 167 declining.
Overnight, the tape is quiet but not sleepy. ES futures are essentially flat (-0.01%) into Monday's open after testing session highs near 7,793. Asia was constructive β Hong Kong's Hang Seng closed +1.05%, South Korea announced a $3.52 billion semiconductor fund, and China issued new coal-capacity exit guidance under its 15th Five-Year Plan. The dominant overnight story, however, is a genuine sector bifurcation inside ad-tech (PUBM vs. TTD) that traders need on their radar before the bell.
This is a HEADLINE-DEPENDENT session β Monday's economic calendar is light (CB Employment Trends Index, bill auctions only), which means individual stock catalysts, geopolitical wire flow out of the Middle East, and Tuesday's CPI setup will drive intraday direction more than macro data today.

π₯ HOT SECTOR #1: AD-TECH β THE GREAT DIVERGENCE
PubMatic Rockets While Trade Desk Craters
This is the single sharpest single-day divergence in the ad-tech space in recent memory, and it's entirely earnings-driven. PubMatic (PUBM) beat Q2 2026 estimates and rallied +32% Friday to $13.48, and pre-market indications this morning show continuation toward $17-18 β an extraordinary follow-through that suggests institutional accumulation, not just short-covering. Meanwhile The Trade Desk (TTD) delivered a disastrous Q3 outlook: sales guided down 12%, adjusted EBITDA margin guided to roughly half of the prior-year comp (24.6% vs. 42.9%), and the stock lost -21.9% (~$1.8B market cap) on the day. Sell-side reaction was brutal and swift β RBC downgraded to Sector Perform, and multiple firms slashed price targets (UBS to $16, Rosenblatt to $12, Scotiabank to $12).
Context matters here: peers Magnite (+1.6%) and AppLovin (+3.3%) both traded fine Friday, which tells DCG traders TTD's problem is company-specific (execution/guidance), not a sector-wide ad-tech air pocket β reinforcing conviction on the PUBM long side and caution on any "cheap TTD" bottom-fishing attempt this week.
