β‘ 5 THINGS TO KNOW RIGHT NOW β BEFORE THE BELL
π’οΈ Two Oil Supertankers Struck by Projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz β Brent crude ripped above $92 intraday before settling near $89β$90 as Middle East shipping risk re-escalates. This is the single biggest catalyst of the session and it's inflationary, which matters a LOT given what's happening with the Fed (see #2).
Upgrade now to get ALL 5 things to know!!!
π MACRO BACKDROP β THE BIG PICTURE
This is a two-front risk-off session, and DCG traders need to hold both threads in their head at the same time. Thread one is geopolitical: two oil supertankers were struck by projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz overnight, the latest flare-up in a Middle East energy-shipping conflict that's now stretching into its seventh month. Brent crude spiked over 2% toward $92 before settling into the high-$80s, and Nasdaq 100 futures immediately extended losses, last down roughly 1.03% around 4:09 AM ET per Walter Bloomberg.
Thread two is monetary policy, and it's arguably the bigger structural story. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's hawkish Jackson Hole address last Friday pushed September rate-hike odds from roughly 35% to the mid-50s%, and the S&P 500 closed out Friday down 0.25% at 7,711.76 with the Nasdaq 100 falling 0.70%. Monday's Labor Day holiday gave markets a pause, but the SPY still closed the abbreviated session down 0.30% at $767.05. Fed Governor Michelle Barr speaks at 9:05 AM ET today β any reinforcement of Warsh's tone could accelerate the tech unwind already visible in the pre-market heatmap (NVDA -1.18%, AVGO -1.04%, GOOGL -0.75%, Technology sector -1.32%).
Layer in today's economic data gauntlet β ISM Manufacturing PMI, JOLTS Job Openings, and Construction Spending all land at 10:00 AM ET β and you have a session where headline risk and hard data risk are colliding on the same morning. Silver and gold are both soft overnight as the hawkish Fed narrative competes with oil-driven inflation fears in a tug-of-war over precious metals positioning.
This is a HEADLINE-DEPENDENT session. Position size down, keep stops tight, and do not chase the first move β both the Hormuz story and the Fed-speak calendar can flip sentiment inside a single candle.

π₯ HOT SECTOR #1: AI INFRASTRUCTURE / CRYPTO-MINERS-TURNED-DATA-CENTERS
Hut 8 Rides the Anthropic Wave
$HUT is the standout pre-market mover of the session, up 3.9% after reports it will develop data center capacity as part of an AnthropicβLambda cloud compute arrangement, extending a broader trend of former Bitcoin miners pivoting into hyperscale AI infrastructure alongside peers like TeraWulf and Cipher Mining. This continues a theme DCG has flagged repeatedly all summer: power-first infrastructure players are becoming the picks-and-shovels play on the AI capex cycle, often backstopped by hyperscaler-adjacent financing.
