🌍 MACRO BACKDROP — THE BIG PICTURE

Thursday was an AI-fueled melt-up in miniature. Nvidia didn't just beat — it demolished the whisper number, printing revenue growth that more than doubled year-over-year and guiding to 70% growth for fiscal 2028 against a Street consensus of roughly 44%. That single print rippled across the entire semiconductor complex: the VanEck Semiconductor ETF jumped 3.5%, the iShares Semiconductor ETF gained 3%, and the move even reached European tech, where the Stoxx Europe Tech index added 1.8%. The S&P 500 closed at 7,730.99 (+0.72%), the Nasdaq Composite ripped 1.57% to 26,541.35, and the Dow added another 105 points for its third straight winning session.

But the overnight tape tells a more cautious story. Every major sector except Basic Materials (+0.75%) and Energy (+0.24%) is showing red pre-market — Technology, Financials, Utilities, Industrials, Real Estate, Communication Services, Consumer Discretionary, Health Care, and Consumer Staples are all down between -0.65% and -1.38%. That's not panic — it's positioning discipline ahead of the single biggest catalyst of the week: Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's first Jackson Hole keynote, expected around 10:00 AM ET this morning.

The overnight session also delivered a full plate of secondary catalysts — Marvell's post-earnings fade, PayPal's collapsed buyout, Gilead's FDA win, hot Spanish and Swiss inflation prints out of Europe, and continuing Strait of Hormuz diplomacy easing pressure on oil.
